Overview: The Medical Coder and Trainer specializing in IR-DRG Compliance will play a crucial role in overseeing and ensuring adherence to International Refined-DRG (IR-DRG) coding standards within healthcare facilities that align with Nabidh Health Information Exchange (HIE) guidelines mandated by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). This position involves a combination of expertise in IR-DRG coding practices, training capabilities, and commitment to maintaining compliance with evolving standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • IR-DRG Implementation: Lead the implementation of IR-DRG coding practices within healthcare facilities connected to Nabidh HIE, ensuring seamless integration and compliance.
  • Training and Education: Develop and conduct training programs and workshops for medical coding staff and healthcare professionals on IR-DRG coding guidelines, Nabidh compliance, and best practices.
  • Compliance Oversight: Monitor and enforce strict adherence to DHA and Nabidh standards for IR-DRG coding, providing guidance and support to ensure accurate and consistent coding practices.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and quality of IR-DRG coding, identifying areas for improvement and corrective actions.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed documentation and reports on IR-DRG compliance activities, documenting successes, challenges, and recommendations for enhancements.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with healthcare teams, IT professionals, and relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth integration of IR-DRG coding within EMR systems compliant with Nabidh standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with emerging IR-DRG and Nabidh standards, contributing insights for enhancing coding practices and compliance measures.


Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in International Refined-DRG (IR-DRG) coding systems and their application within healthcare facilities.
  • Thorough understanding of Nabidh HIE guidelines and DHA regulations related to IR-DRG coding standards.
  • Extensive experience in healthcare data coding, specifically focusing on inpatient care and reimbursement systems.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems compatible with Nabidh standards and interoperability protocols.
  • Expertise in IR-DRG classification methodologies and their implementation in healthcare settings.

Non-Technical Skills:

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively conduct training sessions and communicate coding standards to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical aptitude with keen attention to detail for ensuring accuracy and precision in coding practices.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally with healthcare teams and stakeholders.
  • Adaptive to evolving standards and proactive in continuous learning and skill enhancement.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Medical Coding, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Certification in IR-DRG coding systems or related professional certifications would be advantageous.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in healthcare coding, including a significant focus on IR-DRG compliance and Nabidh HIE standards adherence.
