Our Data Center Engineering Operations team maintain and operate our critical infrastructure systems so that they are prepared to stand up against any situation.

The Infrastructure Operations organization is looking for Data Center Technicians to take AWS Data Centre Operations to the next level. The position will help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data center operations.

This position involves hardware and network diagnostics followed by physical repair and includes participation in an on-call rotation. All candidates should be willing to work both independently and with a team. Work prioritization, organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to react quickly are critical to being successful. In addition to hardware and network repair candidates will install equipment, create documentation, innovate solutions, participate in site-level project work, and fix complex problems within the Data Center Space. This team works in an environment that operates 24/7.

This position requires that the candidate selected obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada.

The Infrastructure Operations organization is looking for a Data Center Technician to take AWS Data Center operations to the next level. The position will ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels for data center operations. This position includes computer hardware and network diagnostics, as well as physical repair. This position includes participation in an on-call rotation. All candidates must be able to work independently and in a team. Establishing work priorities, organizational skills, effective communication and the ability to respond quickly are essential to success. In addition to repairing computer equipment and networks, The candidate will install equipment, produce documentation, provide innovative solutions, participate in site-wide projects, and solve complex problems inside the data center. This team works in a 24/7 environment.

A day in the life
Tasked with driving innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities.
Drive projects with moderate complexity.
Assist in troubleshooting of facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
Perform rack installs, rack decommissioning, operational readings and facility management.
Provide key performance indicators to senior engineers.
Responsible for the on-site management of contractors, sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices, procedures & local legislation.
Performance and oversight of maintenance and operations on all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.
Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work.
Perform basic support concepts such as ticketing systems, root cause analysis, change management creation, writing procedures and building management systems.
Work schedule changes depending on specific site needs. Shifts can be up to 12-hours and may rotate on a predefined schedule. Some locations have on-call rotations.
Maintain data center critical infrastructure equipment ensuring 99.999% up-time of the world’s largest cloud computing portfolio.
Role may support more than one location/site.
Walk job sites in uneven terrain. Maintain balance and perform construction tasks while on a ladder
Regularly lift and/or move up to 39 pounds unassisted and participate in group lifts for 40+ pounds
Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb stairs, twist, bend, work above shoulders, grasp, carry, push and pull.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualification:
– Technical (Military/Trade School) training or 2+ years’ of equivalent experience in a relevant industry (for example: electrical or mechanical)
– 2+ years of Computer Hardware, including troubleshooting and repair skills.
– 1+ years of Linux Operating Systems experience.
– 1+ years of Computer Networking experience.
– Candidates should be able to lift up to 50lbs and or work in elevated locations.
– Availability to work in an environment that operates 24/7.
– Ability to work on a rotating shift schedule.
– Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a personal vehicle between company locations regularly.
– Must have the ability to read/write/speak/communicate fluently (English) with respect to complex technical instructions and concepts.

Basic skills:
– More than two years of experience in the computer hardware field, including troubleshooting and repair;
– More than 1 year of experience in Linux operating systems;
– More than one year of experience in computer hardware;
– Valid driving license; This position requires regularly driving a personal vehicle between different company sites;
– Good understanding of scripting languages;
– The candidate must be able to lift loads of up to 22 kg (50 lbs) and work in elevated spaces;
– Be available to work in an environment that operates 24/7.
– Ability to work on a rotating schedule;
– Ability to read, write, speak and communicate comfortably in English using complex technical instructions and concepts.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications:
– Previous experience working in a Data Center environment (racking & stacking gear, cable management, hot & cold aisle containment);
– Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system;
– Good understanding of Linux or similar Operating Systems;
– Good understanding of network design, protocols and troubleshooting;
– Experience with storage devices;
– Experience in problem solving and addressing customer service related issues by working with the customer and other internal teams;
– A Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent experience in an IT related field.
– Experience with Storage Devices.
– Good understanding of scripting languages.

Compétences souhaitées:
– Have experience working in a data center environment (construction of racks and storage of equipment, cabling management, confinement in hot and cold corridors);
– Have experience managing work and priorities through a tracking ticket system;
– Good knowledge of Linux or similar operating systems;
– Good knowledge of network design, protocols, and troubleshooting;
– Experience with data storage devices;
– Have experience resolving and managing customer service issues in collaboration with the client and other internal teams;
– Have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in an IT-related field.
