Bilingual Bridges

Bilingual Math/Reading Teacher

About the Job

Bilingual Bridges is expanding! We’ve partnered with the Indiana Department of Education to offer math and reading tutoring to 3rd-8th grade students throughout Indiana. To be eligible, students must receive free or reduced lunch, reside in Indiana, and have failed their Math or ELA on their ILEARN exams.

Qualified students will receive over $1,000 worth of impactful reading and math tutoring from Bilingual Bridges—at no cost to families! Our classes are flexible and can be scheduled on weekdays and weekends. Currently, we’re in high demand for teachers to lead 1:1 and small group sessions (up to 3:1 ratio) from Monday to Friday, between 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM EST.

We’re hiring licensed bilingual teachers experienced in remedial math and reading for both native and non-native English speakers. While the majority of our English learners are native Spanish speakers, we’re also interested in bilingual teachers who can communicate in Haitian Creole, French, and Arabic.

About the company

Bilingual Bridges was opened by an Alaskan bilingual teacher, Kelly Minks, who was frustrated by the lack of support available to English learners in her school and across the United States. From limited access to quality curriculum, bilingual materials, and qualified instructors to a widespread insensitivity toward the needs of English learners, Kelly knew that changes were needed in education.

Below are two of the questions Kelly began asking her colleagues and school administrators, which were often met with shoulder shrugs, eye rolls, and frustration:

● Beyond the dwindling numbers of school-based bilingual programs in the United States, where could the growing number of English learners find academic support in their native languages and English?

● If English learners don’t have access to bilingual tutors, family members, or friends, who could help them understand difficult homework assignments in English?

Kelly decided to create a solution beyond the walls of a K-12 school building. She built an online tutoring platform that could connect language learners with bilingual teachers through live, online tutoring lessons. Kelly formed a small team of like-minded bilingual educators who, together, leveraged their knowledge and experiences to launch Bilingual Bridges.
